27 Feb Easy American Biscuits (Scones)
Who can resist a freshly baked bread and what the best thing is that is a very easy recipe to prepare for breakfast or your tea time. We love to eat them with some butter or jam. You could eat them with whatever you like, it could be also a great side dish for a BBQ.
This is a recipe inspired by the book “Classic American Cookbook” by Fannie Farmer. We have changed some things for our taste.
Ingredients:
1 3/4 cup of flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar (it is not necessary)
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup of butter
2/3 cup milk
Prep:
- Prepare a rectangular pan with parchment paper or you can use two round cake pans. Preheat the oven at 220ºC.
- In a bowl combine the flour, salt, baking powder, cream of tartar and sugar. Cut the butter in small cubes and add to the flour mixture and work them together with a pastry blender or your hand until it remains as coarse sand.
- Add the milk and mix it until it forms a ball. Turn the dough onto a floured table and knead it for 10 minutes. Press the dough until you reach 1 cm high and cut them in rounds with a cookie cutter. Place the biscuits touching each other in the pan and cook them for 15-20 minutes or until golden.
